Totally agree about slacking off with manual backups. If there are huge data volumes so a whole night isn't enough for a single job, we can often divide it into different jobs run slightly less frequently. If scheduled, they can run at night and if only they're finished in the morning (or whenever we need to use the data again) that's fast enough. Manual backup procedures work well in the beginning but after a while we often tend to forget about doing them regularly enough so backups should preferably be scheduled for automatic execution. To me performance normally isn't the most important criteria for a backup solution. RTRR is also more feature rich and for example offer the long awaited versioning capability. RTRR is better though when large data volumes are to be transferred over fast (LAN or LAN-like) connections. Over slow connections NAS to NAS (or Rsync if using it with non-Qnap destinations) is definitely the fastest. Performance increases on subsequents runs as it's using caching. NAS to NAS (which is really rsync from Qnap to Qnap) is always slow to start with. By the way i tested nas2nas the performance wasn't great.
